Standing an average of 1.30 and 1.45m high, the Icelandic horse could be considered pony size as per the FEI (International Equestrian Federation) standards. There is a lack of a word in Icelandic for « pony » though, and most importantly the members of the breed are the pride of the nation, and are as powerful, sturdy and dynamic like the big horses. They will carry adults as well as children. They are broken when they are four or five years old, and they are considered adult around six years old only. They are long-lived and can reach an average of 35 years old. They commonly can be actively ridden until the age of 25, or even be fit, both stallions and breeding mares, for breeding up to that age as well.[/vc_column_text][mk_blockquote style=”quote-style” font_family=”none” text_size=”18″ align=”left”]A family horse with an exceptional longevity.[/mk_blockquote][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/6″][mk_image heading_title=”Origins” src=”http://www.purcheval.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/ORIGINES-amble-volant.jpg” image_width=”400″ image_height=”400″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” link=”http://www.purcheval.com/en/the-icelandic-horse/the-origins/” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][mk_image heading_title=”The Breed” src=”http://www.purcheval.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/vignette-race.jpg” image_width=”400″ image_height=”400″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” link=”http://www.purcheval.com/en/the-icelandic-horse/the-breed/” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][mk_image heading_title=”The Gaits” src=”http://www.purcheval.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Clara-et-Charlotta_-menu-cheval-islandais.jpg” image_width=”400″ image_height=”400″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” link=”http://www.purcheval.com/en/the-icelandic-horse/the-gaits/” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][mk_image heading_title=”The Competition” src=”http://www.purcheval.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Competition-Einar_Oeder-_-Le-Cheval-Islandais.jpg” image_width=”400″ image_height=”400″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” link=”http://www.purcheval.com/en/the-icelandic-horse/the-competition/” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][mk_image heading_title=”In France” src=”http://www.purcheval.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Seline-_-vignette-Cheval-Islandais.jpg” image_width=”400″ image_height=”400″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” link=”http://www.purcheval.com/en/the-icelandic-horse/the-icelandic-horse-in-france/” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][mk_image heading_title=”In Iceland” src=”http://www.purcheval.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/ISLANDE2013_EMa030.jpg” image_width=”400″ image_height=”400″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” link=”http://www.purcheval.com/en/the-icelandic-horse/the-icelandic-horse-in-iceland/” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][mk_fancy_title tag_name=”h2″ style=”true” color=”#393836″ size=”16″ font_weight=”inhert” margin_top=”0″ margin_bottom=”20″ font_family=”none” align=”left”]The Icelandic Horse[/mk_fancy_title][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”20″][mk_dropcaps style=”simple-style”]S[/mk_dropcaps]o, the Icelandic : are they considered ponies or horses?
