Glóðafeykir frá Halakoti

The World Championships 2015 in Herning are over and it is time for us to celebrate the success of Glóðafeykir frá Halakoti, who became a World Champion with 9,03 for ridden abilities, 8,31 for conformation, and a total of 8,74. Outside of Iceland, Glóðafeykir is the stallion with the second highest score in the world for ridden abilities: 9,04 (scored in Hella in 2015). .

Glóðafeykir was bred by Kristján Finnsson, Svanhvít Kristjánsdóttir (Svana), and Einar Øder Magnússon. He was sired by Rökkvi frá Hárlaugsstöðum and Glóð frá Gróteyri and born in Halakot in 2003..

Pur Cheval has been Glóðafeykir’s co-owner since early 2010. Nearly 6 years ago, while in Halakot, Einar Øder Magnusson and Ólafur Ólafsson handshook an agreement to work together on taking this promising horse to the World Championships. Four people shared that dream: Einar and Svanhvít, the breeders, trainers, and owners of Glóðafeykir, and Ingibjörg and Ólafur, the founders of Pur Cheval. Einar and Glóðafeykir’s amazing performance which led to their victory at Landsmót 2012, was an important step towards that dream.

Sadly, as many of you already know, Einar, Svanhvít’s husband, passed away early this year. There was a unique bond between Einar and his horse, so we prepared ourselves for the fact that Glóðafeykir would not be going to Herning.
However, Svana who had been involved in his training all along, was determined to carry out the dream. She got Daníel Jónsson, a good friend of Einar’s, on board to show Glóðafeykir. The results in Herning were amazing and we applaud Svana for her hard work and determination. She is an amazing Lady!

We are also forever grateful to Daníel for showing Glóðafeykir with such precision and joy. Before he entered the track, he told us: “Einar will be with me in the saddle”..

Today, Glóðafeykir is resting at Pur Cheval’s main stables in France. Charlotta and her team are taking good care of him. He is enjoying the late summer days. The plan now is to let him unwind for a while and get to know his new home. Soon you will be able to book your mares with this amazing stallion for the 2016 breeding season!
